Spun cam bearings usually makes the block scrap.Īs you look at you main bearings (which I think are all junk) remember that the bottom half sees the running load from piston pressure and the top side sees the load from the rods stopping the pistons as they move upward and then pulling them back down on the intake stroke. Once they do, they are only moments from spinning in the bore. If a bearing is ****ed and not getting enough oil, the load of the cam on the bearing can cause the bearing to move. When you are building the engine yourself, it is easy to put the cam in the newly installed bearings and spin it to make sure it spins easily and the clearance is right. That's often done with crude tools and a big hammer. The scars you see in the cam bearing bore were cause by the cam bearings being removed. I finally got so tired of cam bearing problems that I bought my own tool. Somehow they seem to feel even the sweeper can do it. Cam bearings are often not done properly, even by good shops.
